Many of you know how much I love food… and people… and events… and community! Ok, so I’m a sucker for social gatherings, what can I say. And what better way to enjoy all of it than by checking out the annual Eat Local Week? Every year, Edible Austin Magazine hosts a week long series of events made to educate and salivate the public over delicious local foods, wines, beers… well, you get the picture. And, it all goes to benefit Urban Roots, a program by YouthLaunch that teaches youth about the importance of community and service through organic gardening.
Tonight’s event was really just a “soft” opening to a grand week of many events. Located at Book People, it just made sense to have the guests of honor be comprised of local authors who have written all varieties of books about cooking and organic foods. Guests included Karen Morgan, Blackbird Bakery Gluten-Free; Pamela Walker, Growing Good Things to Eat in Texas; Alain Braux,Living Gluten and Dairy-Free with French Gourmet Food,Terry Thompson-Anderson, Don Strange of Texas: His Life and Recipes, The Texas Hill Country: A Food and Wine Lover’s Paradise, Jim Hightower and Susan DeMarco, Swim Against the Current.
Remember, this is just a precursor to an entire week of events that all revolve around local food. To find more events during Eat Local Week, head over to Edible Austin to see the calendar. Enjoy!
