Eat Local Week: Urban Farms Bicycle Tour

What’s the first thing people think of when they think of Austin? Cycling. What’s the second thing? Organic. So why not combine the two? For several years, Edible Austin Magazine has hosted Eat Local Week to help promote the idea of eating better foods through local food and beverage suppliers. And what better way to showcase the suppliers than by having a bicycle tour to several prominent urban farms around the city of Austin?

Much warmer than last year, the bicycle tour was a major thrill for everyone from advanced athletes to more casual cruisers. With special thanks to Bicycle Sports Shop for staying at the ready for anyone needing a quick fix on their two-wheeled transportation, hundreds of people were able to enjoy a relaxing ride to locations such as Springdale Farm, Rain Lily Farm, Green Gate Farm, and even the Urban Roots farm just to name a few.

For those of you just catching up with us, my last post talks a bit more about Eat Local Week and helping Urban Roots. Urban Roots is a program by YouthLaunch that teaches young adults about the importance of community and service through organic gardening.
