Have yourself a merry little Christmas…
Zilker Christmas Tree | HDR Landscape Photography
I’m a rare breed. One of the few native Austinites left these days that you’ll find in this beloved city of ours. I’ve seen Austin grow and flourish for over thirty years. As many times as the city skyline has changed, few things remain as a constant landmark of a city rich in history and culture. For as long as I can remember, one of our oldest family traditions was to witness the lighting of the Zilker Christmas Tree.
Standing at 155 feet tall…
...and lit with 3000 colored lights, this shining monument to Austin has been a holiday tradition since 1967. This historic icon was originally erected as one of the fabled Moontowers of Austin, built to light the otherwise darkened areas of the central city district back in 1895. Of the original 31 towers, only 6 now remain in their original locations.
I can’t think of a more sincere and special way to wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year than from this treasured Austin icon. From my studio to your home, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
